Summer Plans at OFE

This summer, our student staff at OFE is heading to all corners of the country, and beyond, on various adventures. During the summers, most students at Purdue take the time off for internships, jobs, summer classes, family time, and trips. Here is a sneak peek into what the students of OFE are up to this summer:

We have several students graduating and heading off to begin their careers! We are super proud of our
seniors for working so hard and earning their engineering degrees from Purdue. Marissa, one of the graduating seniors, is moving to Phoenix, Arizona to work for Honeywell Aerospace as a Project Management Specialist for Customer Product Support. Mariah will be moving to Charleston, South Carolina where she will begin her job as a metallurgist for Nucor Steel.

Many Purdue engineering students use the summer for working, co-oping, or interning to get job experience, and the students of OFE are no exception. Mary will be moving down to Mobile, Alabama for the summer as part of her Co-Op. She will be working as a process engineer at Kimberly Clark Professional, working with creating paper, testing products, and streamlining processes. Andrew B. will be in Phoenix this summer interning at Orbital ATK working with micrometeoroid impact analysis. Edwin will be out in San Francisco working for a startup compact payload launch provider.

However, summer isn’t just for working or school. Some students take the time to do things they can’t do during the school year! Eion will be traveling across Europe with some friends for a month. Afterwards he will be heading back to Purdue to do research with a professor and work at OFE in his free time. Aaron will also be heading to Charleston this summer with Mariah, puppy training and taking some time off. For 3 weeks he will be on a submarine cruise for training with the Navy.

As you can see, there is no one way to best spend the summer. Our students are evidence of the incredible opportunities that are available through Purdue (internships, co-ops, jobs straight out of graduation, research). However, the options don’t end there. Our students have taken the initiative to make the most of the time they have during the summer, whether through Purdue or on their own.
