My
name is Andrew Lepore and I’m a sophomore in Construction Engineering and
Management here at Purdue. Even though I am a full-time student, I still manage
to get involved on campus with a number of academic and extracurricular
activities.
Let
me start by walking through my daily routine. I wake up every day at 8 am. I
roll out of bed, grab myself a cup of coffee or tea, and head to my first class
at 9:30 am. From there, I have back-to-back classes until I head back to my
room at 5:20. After classes are done for the day, I grab a bite to eat and head
to a quiet spot on campus to study. As you can see, my normal schedule is
pretty busy and my major is demanding, so I use my campus involvement as a
break from all the numbers and equations that populate the pages of my
notebooks.
Two
days a week I work in the Office of Future Engineers. This is one of my
favorite parts of the week. The office is always welcoming and I love working
with my fellow pre-college advisors. My job also gives me the ability to show
prospective students how great Purdue really is and all that this university
has to offer.
Outside
of work, I am also a member of the Purdue chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha
Fraternity. I rushed along with hundreds of other students in my first
semester on campus. Through rush, I was able to find a house filled with
like-minded individuals that were involved on campus, but also committed to
their studies. I hold a leadership position within the house and I have been
involved with community outreach and philanthropy through my fraternity.
I
am a member of the Construction Engineers of the Future, which is a networking
group for construction and civil engineering students. We meet bi-weekly and it
gives me a chance to connect with people in my majors and construction
companies.
I
am also involved with PUDM, Purdue’s annual Dance Marathon which raises money
for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. This event is a ton of fun!
There is no better feeling than dancing for 18 hours straight to raise over one
million dollars for such an amazing cause.
Depending
on the time of year, you can find me at Ross-Ade Stadium or Mackey Arena
cheering on the Boilermakers. I am a member of the Paint Crew, Purdue
basketball’s student section. One of the coolest things that I’ve seen in my
two years at Purdue was when we won the B1G Championship on home court against
our rivals – Indiana University!
Even
though Purdue is one of the top public universities in the country, academics
is only a part of the experience. I have found that it is important to immerse
yourself on campus and find what you are truly passionate about. Between the
B1G sports, Greek life, and thousands of academic and extracurricular clubs and
organizations on campus, you are bound to find something that suits your
passion. I am a Purdue engineering student, but I am way more than just a
student.
