So you’ve come to Purdue… maybe you’re here on a visit or maybe this is the place you’ve chosen to call home for the next 4 years. Either way, I know what you’re thinking: How am I gonna be able to show my friends and family back home how cool Purdue is? Well don’t worry, we have an answer for you. Whether you’re looking for the perfect place to take that first-day-of-school picture mom’s been nagging you for, or whether you’re just looking for some more insta clout, here’s our list of the 10 best photo-op locations on campus!

10. John Purdue Statue

First up on our list is the man who started it all: the man, the myth, the legend, John Purdue. Purdue University executives must have thought that simply naming the whole university after the man himself wasn’t enough… so to further remember our university’s founder, we put a statue of him in our front yard, Memorial Mall. Go take a seat on the bench next to good ol’ John and tag him on Instagram to show your appreciation for the man who gave you the great college you love today.

9. Unfinished “P”

Why is the block “P” located in Academy Park unfinished you might ask? No, it’s not because they forgot to finish carving out the “P”. It’s actually meant to represent Purdue’s culture of never being finished and always striving for the next great thing. This is not only a great location to take a picture but also a great opportunity to post an inspirational quote to motivate your followers on the gram to keep striving for greatness!

8. Beering Hall “Jedi Council Room”

For all the Star Wars fans out there, head to the top floor of Beering Hall to check out a room that looks a lot like the Jedi Council room from Star Wars.

7. Engineering Fountain (at night!)

This is one of the best engineering schools in the country after all. Nothing screams Purdue like the fountain in the dead center of engineering campus. Plus at night the fountain looks like this!

6. Hammer Down Statue

This giant statue of a boilermaker “hammering down” is sure to get you fired up to watch the Boilers in Ross-Ade Stadium just across the street.

5. Instagram Story Edition: The Boilermaker Special

Catch a ride across campus on our gigantic, street-legal, “train” which also happens to be the coolest mascot in the nation. Take an Instagram video for your story to show all the sights and sounds around campus as you sit in the “coal car” of the train.

4. VOSS Solar System Model

Whether you’re an astronomy geek or you just appreciate cool art, this giant sculpture model of the solar system makes for a great picture spot. The sculpture itself is a model of the sun, and the paths in the park surrounding it model the planets.

3. Mackey Arena

They say a picture says a thousand words, but a picture at Mackey SCREAMS a thousand words. Mackey Arena is known as one of the loudest and most intimidating arenas in all of college basketball. This makes sense considering Purdue Basketball has a home record of 63-4 (!!!) in the last four seasons. A picture inside Mackey Arena is sure to make all college hoops fanatics jealous.

2. Purdue University Arch(es)

Remember the days when Instagram only let you post one pic at a time? Well thankfully you don’t have to choose which classic Purdue Arch picture to post because now you can post both! Start with the original Purdue Arch at the end of the engineering mall and then swipe left to see yourself under the new Purdue Arch recently built right in front of the union.

1.    Neil Armstrong Statue

Finally, coming in at number one on our rankings is the Neil Armstrong statue just outside the Armstrong Hall of engineering. Purdue has had many famous alumni but none more famous than this guy. Legend has it Neil got a C in his first calculus class at Purdue. You can be sure to let your parents know about that by sending them your pic with Neil before you tell them about your grades.
