In high school, there was always one thing that I just
could NOT get right: using my planner. Each year, I always came prepared
thinking "this year will be different. This will be my year to finally get
the assignment planner under control." I was wrong. Every year.
Truthfully, my assignment planner was always in the back of my head, because I
knew deep down that I needed to use it. I knew that when I entered the Big
Leagues (a.k.a. Purdue,) I would need to change my routine. But every year, somehow, it ended up mangled
and dusty in the netherworld of the bottom of my locker.
With high school now a distant memory, I am trying to find balance
between academics, my sorority, and my job (along with all of the things in
between). And, I am happy to report that
4 weeks into Purdue, I am still going strong with my assignment planner. And,
believe it or not, it really does keep everything straight.
Gone are the high school days where we moved easily from class to
class until 3:20 pm. At the end of the day, it was like a mad dash to the
next event so we could fit in everything we needed to. It was definitely a big
difference coming from a very structured high school schedule, to a more free
college schedule. But, I like it a lot more this way.
A couple days out of the week, I work in the Office of Future
Engineers. I really enjoy everyone I work with and the overall work
environment. Plus, I love being able to ask the student staff for advice on
anything, because since they are all in engineering, they have all been a first
year engineering student like me.
At the beginning of the semester, I rushed to join one of the many
sororities on campus. We visited houses for 2 weekends to find our new
"home away from home." I am really excited to be a new member of
Kappa Alpha Theta. From recruitment up until now, we have had a lot of events
so we can learn more about our great sorority sisters, and about our sorority.
No matter the event, I always have a great time!
Even though I am still learning how to fit everything on my plate
(figuratively AND literally because I love going to the dining courts), I can
tell that everything is slowly starting to fall into place. But, I couldn't end this blog
entry without giving some final credit to my sidekick, my Purdue Mortarboard (a Purdue specific planner sold at the bookstores).
