Interview with Industrial Engineering Senior, Sarah Chandler

I'm Sarah! I'm a senior from Clarkston, Michigan, majoring in industrial engineering and minoring in management. I love studying these areas because they don't just give me a set of skills, I really live my life following principles that I learn. I always find myself trying to make things more efficient and trying to schedule my time in the most optimal way possible.

One of my favorite parts of campus is working for the Office of Future Engineers because I love sharing my passion for Purdue Engineering with perspective students. Outside of work and school, I’m involved in Women in Engineering, College Mentors for Kids, and intramural soccer.  And I love supporting any and all Purdue sports!

I have had several amazing internship opportunities and the support Purdue has provided in helping me get those internships was one of the reasons I chose to come here in the first place. During the spring of my sophomore year, I was an Industrial Engineering Intern at Walt Disney World! And the summer of 2018, I interned in St. Joseph, Michigan with Whirlpool Corporation. In both of these roles, I learned more than I could have ever imagined while often feeling like I was on vacation. Both Florida and St. Joe were amazing places to live and both companies provided fun and unique cultures to work for!

I knew I wanted to go back home post-graduation so I can be close to family. I have accepted a role in a Leadership Development Program with Whirlpool Corporation and I’m looking forward to getting experience in 3 unique roles in just a few years out of college. Further down the line, I am interested in getting an MBA and furthering my career in management.

Everywhere I go, whether I am at home or vacationing across the country, I wear my Purdue gear with great pride and I never fail to get several people shouting "Boiler Up!" Purdue has provided me with an amazing college experience and, specifically, with a great support network in the College of Engineering. Through the job search for internships and full-time, I have been so excited to learn about all the amazing places my Purdue Engineering degree can take me, the options are honestly endless!
